2026 Holiday Wines and Truffles in Piedmont, Italy Adventure

2026 Holiday Wines and Truffles in Piedmont, Italy Adventure

Discover why this region is considered the best wine region in Italy on an unforgettable wine tour Italy experience set in the beautiful villages of Piedmont. Nestled in northwest Italy, Piedmont (Piemonte) is home to some of the country’s most prestigious wines, where Nebbiolo—known as the king of red grapes—produces iconic Barolo and Barbaresco.

Alongside it, Dolcetto and Barbera offer approachable, fruit-forward styles, while the elegant white Arneis adds balance to the region’s diverse portfolio. Journey through rolling vineyards shaped by unique microclimates and soils, explore historic hilltop villages, browse vibrant farmers’ markets, and indulge in local cheeses and culinary traditions.

This magical season elevates your experience even further, with visits to the renowned White Truffle Fair in Alba and the festive Asti Christmas Market. Enjoy exclusive access to top wine producers, including a private white truffle hunt at a prestigious Barolo estate, followed by a barrel tasting and an unforgettable library-release truffle dinner set inside the winery’s historic cellars.

Dates: November 8-16 or November 21-29.

Our week-long tour will start and end at the Milan airport (MXP). There are three airports around Milan, so please make any flight reservations to/from MXP.

Sample Itinerary:

Day 1- Time TBD

Pick up from Milan Airport. It’s a 1.5-hour drive to Alba. Check in to the hotel and get to know Alba. We will give you a city tour and point out our favorite restaurants, wine bars, and attractions. We’ll stop at a wine bar for wine and appetizers, and get to know each other.

Day 2- 10 am

Roero’s best winery, Bra (slow food capital city) and a artisanal creamery. Logically, we begin our journey with the more elegant and accessible reds and whites from Roero to allow you to leisurely work off the jet lag in the morning. Then we proceed to the gastronomic village of Bra, where the slow-food movement began, to enjoy some sightseeing followed by lunch. Afterwards, we visit an artisanal creamery crafting the famous Toma and Robiola cheese. You are back to Alba in time for freshening up and a relaxing dinner of your choice.

Day 3- 10am

La Morra, home of the most opulent and decadent of Barolos (for those of us who don’t have 30 years to age it). La Morra is a hilltop town in the Northern part of the Barolo D.O.C.G. that produces a variety of styles depending on the elevation and exposure of the vineyards. Generally speaking, the lower elevation vines are elegant and fruit-forward to be enjoyed at 3-8 years of age, while the highest elevations are more tannic and age-worthy.

It should be noted that some of the best Barbera D’ Alba come from La Morra (and we will taste those as well). Today we start at the lower elevation and work our way up the hill tasting Dolcetto, Barbera and Barolo. We will break for lunch and sightseeing in La Morra, and then continue with winery visits after lunch.

Day 4- 10 am

Castiglione Falletto & Serralunga As we delve deeper into Barolo, we encounter heavier and more robust wines. Today, we begin in Castiglione Falletto, with a winery I’ve had a nearly 40-year relationship with, followed by one of the top three producers in all of Barolo. We will then continue on to Serralunga for lunch and a bit of exploration.

Day 5- 9:30 am

Dogliani and Barolo– We will go out a little further today to Dogliani, where they are creating fruit-forward Dolcettos that are out of this world. After visiting a winery, we will have lunch in Barolo together. You’ll have time to explore this cute wine village with its wine bars and 13th-century castle converted into the Barolo Regional Enoteca and the Wine and Ethnographic Museum. We will end our exploration at a Barolo winery before returning to Alba.

Day 6- 10 am

Concluding the educational and fun exploration of Barolo, we visit Monforte D’ Alba for what I believe to be the best age-worthy examples of the Nebbiolo grape. Lacking the licorice and minerality of Serralunga (just across the ravine), but more than making up for it with lavish richness and velvety mouthfeel. After our winery visits, we will see one of the best producers of Dolcetto and Barbera in Dogliani, just south of Monforte D’ Alba.

This comprehensive exploration of Roero, Barolo and Dogliani should give great insight into how soil composition, elevation and sun exposure can have a massive impact on the same grape varieties grown over a relatively short distance. Then we will head back to Alba for some R. &. R. before a flourish of weekend activities that are sure to appeal to the wine weary.

Day 7- 2:30pm

Take the morning off to eat pastries at a cafe, visit a museum, and shop around town. The White Truffle Fair will be open, and you can peruse the different vendors selling their truffles and local products. At 2:30pm, we will leave for a special private event at one of the greatest Barbaresco and Barolo producers in Piemonte which will include a truffle hunt on their estate, barrel tastings, and an exclusive dinner with pairing of their finest wines with white truffles.

Day 8- 3pm

The morning is yours for a leisurely breakfast at a cafe, visiting the white truffle fair, or shopping. We will leave the hotel at 10:30 am and journey to Asti for the Christmas Market. You can visit museums and other restaurants, and wine bars during your time in Asti. We will leave Asti around 6:00 pm and head back to Alba.

Day 9- 8 am

We will leave the hotel and return to Milan Airport at 8am. It’s a 2- hour drive to the airport. If you choose to travel later in the day or to Turin by train, please make arrangements on your own. There is a train that travels between Alba and Turin multiple times per day.
